The 9th studio album from Johan Van Roy's hellectro deity Suicide Commando,recently managed to enter the mainstream German charts for the first time ever, with When Evil Speaks.  They captured the coveted  Number 1 positions in both the German electronic web charts (GEWC) and the German alternative charts (DAC).

Suicide Commando is out to prove that not only is dark electro still a very viable genre of electronic music, but that it has the power to stand tall and compete with some of the best mainstream EDM artists today.

So how did Suicide Commando achieve what very few others have managed to achieve? What sets this album apart from all of it's predecessors? Has Suicide Commando gone into a more conservative and commercial direction? Songs like "Attention Whore and the title track "When Evil Speaks" would probably be a contradiction to that theory. Is the world in such a distressing state, that their dead eyes have opened up to accepting darker and more alternative styles of music? or is it a political commentary about the chaotic mindset that seems to have enslaved us all on a global scale? Well, whatever the reason, it's one hell of a great album.

Since 2010's release of Implements Of Hell, hungry Suicide Commando fans have anxiously awaited for their triumphant return. In true Suicide Commando fashion, Johan did not leave his fans hanging. They released The Suicide Sessions in 2011, the single EP Attention Whore in 2012 and Rewind (Live Vintage Set) released in 2013. So, there was no shortage of Commando, but certainly not a slew of all new electro terror offerings.

When Evil Speaks, can easily be called one of  Suicide Commando's best releases to date. From the moment you turn it on, to the very last note, you will be drawn into Johan's dark and twisted world. "Cut_Bleed_Eviscerate" , immediately reminds me of the early Skinny Puppy days with songs like "Assimilate". It sets the stage for a more classic, 80's influenced, EMB style album. The title track, "When Evil Speaks", is decidedly one of the strongest tracks on the album. The insanely infectious hook will take hold of your brain and will not easily let go.

Their 2012 single Attention Whore, that was a teaser of greater things to come,is a powerfully catchy track that might remind one of Marilyn Manson. Though Johan is not reinventing the wheel and When Evil Speaks is not breaking any new ground, one thing is certain, it has a really unique quality that is lacking in most EBM and dark electro acts today. "When Evil Speaks" is chocked full of mind numbing, hard pounding club anthems like "Evacuate" [Where's The Exit Remix], "Attention Whore", "When Evil Speaks" and "Unterwelt" that is guaranteed to pack the darkest of dance floors. It also features a much less intense and more melancholic side of Johan, with songs like "Monster" and "Song Of No Tomorrow".

 
The second CD When Hate Prevails, features 13 incredible remixes by some of the biggest names in the dark electro market such as Die Sektor ,Alien Vampires,Shiv-R,SIN DNA,Absolute Body Control,Unter Null and many more, plus a new remix of "God Is In The Rain" [First Black Pope Remix] from their album Implements Of Hell. My favorite mixes are "When Evil Speaks" [SIN DNA Remix] and "God Is In The Rain" [First Black Pope Remix].

For those die hard Commando collectors, you better hurry and get your special deluxe box set. It comes in a numbered stainless steel box. It includes the double-digipak "When Evil Speaks/When Hate Prevails" and a second digipak "Rewind - Live Vintage Set", recorded live @ Tivoli De Helling - Utrecht (Holland) in July 2012. it is limited to only 1,500 copies.

You can also buy the 2 CD Limited Edition Boxset, as well as the single 12 track version. However, I do not recommend that you buy that, because you are really missing out on some awesome remixes with the double CD set.

Luckily,it is not that much more expensive, so you won't be missing out on the full Suicide Commando experience. If you can't afford the Deluxe Steel Boxset, or it is sold out, and you can live without the super cool steel enclosure, no worries, you can purchase the 3rd CD "Rewind - Live Vintage Set" separately.
