Interviews Industrial Interview: WVM - "Losing Yourself in the Music"

wvm2

WVM is one of the most anticipated artists of this year. He has just released an EP as a teaser to his forthcoming album The End Is Only The Beginning. His EP and album feature Chris Vrenna, Josh Freese and Sean Beaven who produces the album. Grave Concerns Ezine got to catch up with WVM and here is how it went.

Phill – Thank you so much for giving Grave Concerns Ezine this interview, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

WVM – I am a musician and visual artist from Los Angeles. I create what I want to see and hear.

Phill – You have just released “The End Is Only The Beginning” onto the world, how has it been received so far?

WVM – I have been getting a great response! The EP version of the album has been released and it consists of songs that make up the first half of the LP version. The full album will be released later this year with the second half of the record much darker and electronic in nature to balance the sense of hope that I feel resonates in the first half. I love balancing light and dark as an artist. Everything in this existence consists of a sort of balance in one way or another.

Phill – What is the greatest accolade or recognition that you have received as a musician so far?

WVM – The one yet to come…. I am always striving to reach people's hearts, minds and souls.

Phill – As a musician what do you aspire to achieve with your music?

WVM – The moment in a song when the sounds and words actually penetrate your soul to the point you forget where and who you are. These moments of losing yourself in the music is what I aspire on a continuing basis.

Phill – Is there anything you feel strongly about that manifests itself in your music?

WVM – Yes, there are actually many things. What I have primarily been writing about is the way the world is constructed. We are all so disconnected, even though technology increasingly makes the world a smaller place. We are becoming more and more synthetic.

Phill – Do you have any other creative outlets other than your music?

WVM – Yes, I paint. I love creating in visual mediums. I think all the arts tie together at certain points. What I create visually sometimes reflects what I hear in my head, and vice versa.

Phill – What is the most embarrassing songs we might find on your mp3 player?

WVM – Recently, I downloaded some 90s compilation that has songs like "Pump Up the Jam" by Technotronic and "Mr. Vain" by Culture Beat. They made me laugh but I enjoyed them. I can't help but hear some of the analog synths the bands in the 90s and 80s were using and realize how much bite analog has compared to digital.

Phill – What band or artist would you like to open for?

WVM – Aphex Twin or Nine Inch Nails

Phill – How often or how long do you practice for every week?

WVM – I work on music and art all day, everyday.

Phill – Do you sing in the shower?

WVM – No, but maybe I should start.

Phill – Do you think a strong online presence is important for bands these days?

WVM – Yes, definitely, it is the best way to communicate with your fans other than the music itself.
