God Module have been around for almost 15 years, and have crafted a sound that combines influences of wave, electro and industrial. Their latest release Empath 2.0, celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Empath, is packed with dark and danceable tracks.

Empath 2.0 is a literal remaster of Empath. The 3 members of God Module are best at taking all the cliches of electro, gothic, industrial and wave and make one dark potion out of it. The sound they create is, what they call, the soundtrack to your worst horror movie: your own life.

What can you expect on Empath 2.0? You find the classic ingredients: spooky synthesizer sounds, distorted and whispering vocals, quotes filled with weltschmerz and all of that over a solid layer of steady beats. While the tracks are 10 years old, they still sound fresh. Many current acts have borrowed from the legacy of God Module.

The opening track of Empath 2.0 “Catalyst” sounds like a stretched-out version of the opening of Bestias De Asalto's Homenaje a la Violencia, an observation that immediately proves how actual the tracks on Empath 2.0 still are. With “Telekinetic” God Module have produced the picture-perfect club hit. The combination of stingy quotes “Life is lonely, boring and dumb”, the X-Files-like synths and the pumping beat is one of the highlights of the album.

The fourth track “Entranced” is another highlight: the melody in the synths combined with the whispered vocals sounds like the lovechild of their descendants Blutengel and Hocico. With “Reverse Inversion” and “Curse” God Module show that they know exactly how to make a catchy aggrotech track. The flowing female vocals on top of “Reverse Inversion” must have inspired Zombie Girl.

Another noteworthy track is the 9^th track “Ever After”, with its damped and dull beats – it sounds like a clubhit for the undead. The following “Lunacy” sounds like an ice-cold version of Blutengel's “Children of the Night”.

Empath 2.0 ends on a high with “Evolve(d)”, which is a summary of all the quirky, over-the-top horror soundscapes that God Module has to offer, and has a surprisingly catchy tune to it: God Module show you that it's completely OK to be humming along with horror-soundtracks.

To summarize: Empath 2.0 by God Module is a remaster and therefore does not contain surprises: it's a solid mixture of electro, industrial, gothic and (dark)wave. God Module do what they're good at: producing great club hits and pumping driving records.
