The label Engraved Rituals have released a powerful new album Homaje A La Violencia by the Mexican duo Bestias De Asalto. Powerful is an understatement to describe this album- it's pure mean energy.
From the first chords of “Matalos A Todos” to the last sound of “Que Reine El Terror”, Homaje A La Violencia is a horror-like sound-experience that seems to drag you into Mexico's violent underbelly of its ongoing drug war, and at the same time the album feels ready to be spun on a long nocturnal drive or in a club.
“Bestias De Asalto wastes no time exploding with their bass heavy Death Metal-like rhythms that hit you in the face like a freight train filled with cocaine”
- and I can't find a better description for Homaje A La Violencia.
“Matalos A Todos” is the gates of hell – an opening track that makes you ready for a trip into a dark electro universe. The next track, “Secuestro”, with its fast-paced beats and screams, leaves no second for the listener to breathe.
“Mente Enferma” is the kind of track that would work equally well on a darker dancefloor as in a war-themed videogame. The dark and menacing “Violador” has a quality to it that creeps under your skin with fear and anticipation.
Starting with some shouts and machine-gun sounds “Come Mierda y Muere” is the most representative track for the Mexican drugs-war that is represented in the music of Bestias De Asalto. The slower, and almost metal-infused “Arsenal” is followed by “Bestias De Asalto”, a more traditional EBM track.
“Que Reine El Terror” takes us back to the back alleys of drugs-ridden neighborhoods in Mexico, where danger looms behind every corner. The apocalyptic “Hacia La Guerra” shows that Bestias De Asalto could as well be composing epic movie scores. Homaje A La Violencia finishes with a bang on “M-60”.
The bonus tracks are remixes of 'Matalos A Todo”, “Que Reine El Terror”, and “M-60” - all full of energy and with a “100% mean machine” feeling to.
The comparison with Feindflug could be made – but the icy German precision is replaced by Mexican boiling blood in Homaje A La Violencia.
