Swedish duo Spetsnaz is back after a 6 years hiatus with their 4th studio album For Generations To Come. I'm going to try to give this as biased a review as I can considering the fact that I absolutely love Spetsnaz. I have happily bought everything they have made. I love their very Nitzer Ebb-ish sound and feel of the classic 80's EBM that I live for.

The EBM duo Spetsnaz was formed in Örebro, Sweden in the autumn of 2001 by Stefan Nilsson and Pontus Stålberg. In 2003, they released their critically acclaimed debut Grand Design. Three years later they released their 2nd studio album Totalitär. They split up surprisingly in November 2006 (during their support tour for And One). However they reformed only one year later in 2007 . They released their 3rd album Deadpan and although it was hugely successful, Spetsnaz seemed to just disappear shortly after the release.

In 2008 Pontus Stålberg formed Turnbull A.C's- Let's Get Pissed! with Lars Karlsson a.k.a. U.S.A. (stands for United States Assholes). This would be a short lived project as they only released one album. It would be six years before Spetsnaz would return.

I'm very happy to report that Spetsnaz is indeed back with yet another album chocked full of high octane dance floor stompers. There quite honestly is not a bad track in the bunch. Though they are not breaking any new ground with For Generations To Come they stay true to the formula that fans like myself have come to love.

Some people have compared them to a Nitzer Ebb clone, but I think that although I can see where someone might draw that comparison, I still feel that they they are like the more clubbier distant cousins that have their own unique sound. There are many bands out there that have that Nitzer Ebb flavor like Militant Cheerleaders on The Move and Paranoid to name a few. However, I really love the powerful sound and unrelenting beats that will punish your bodies while giving you a much needed workout.

One of the reoccurring themes of many Spetsnaz songs like "Fake", "Brainfood, "Who Made You God"? and "Dead Mans Eyes", are low self esteem, narcissism, body images and insecurity. Very human themes and emotions that most people can identify with even if it is too painful or embarrassing to admit.

Spetsnaz is one of the only EBM bands that really speaks volumes to me. I love the always brilliant, though provoking and prolific lyrics like in Brainfood "low self esteem, insecurity, are covered in disco lights, loneliness, infidelity, just a regular Saturday night, "low self esteem, imperfections are covered in disco lights, high hopes, rejection, another typical Saturday night" .

The album ends with a strange track marked untitled, that is blank until the very end where it is a quick few second reprise of Elegy to a military like drumbeat. 

Fans of Nitzer Ebb and classic EBM will want to worship at the altar of Spetsnaz like I do.
