Five years have passed since German synthpop band Melotron have released an album. The single Stuck In The Mirror announces their new work, and ties back to their long and successful career. The album Werkschau will be released later this year.

Stuck In The Mirror gives us a taste of what the next full album will bring. The title single “Stuck In The Mirror” is -as expected- a good piece of solid bodypop that makes you want to go and hit the dancefloor.

With “Folge Mir Ins Licht”, originally released in 2003, Melotron links Stuck In The Mirror back to their past – but does so in a rather surprising manner: by adding soprano vocalist Lauren Francis into a more ballad-like version of the song.

Both “Stuck In The Mirror” and “Erase” are sung in English – a change from the German that is typically used by Melotron. These gentlemen prove here though that their tracks don't need the more exotic German lyrics to sound great.

“Erase” is a mellow, slightly dreamy track with hints of Diorama, and, more than anything, the typical Melotron sound. “Angst Oder Wahn” brings the German lyrics back – yet in an unexpected way. Instead of the danceable synthpop of Melotron, we get a more poppy, 80s track, with vocal lines that hover in between whispering, speaking and singing.

Stuck In The Mirror concludes with a remix of the title track, and an instrumental track “Ohne Worte”. The AnyK Remix of “Stuck In The Mirror” is more like an EBM track, and certainly adds a bite to the original single. “Ohne Worte” features a slow tempo, unearthenly sounds and lots of synths: something akin to S.P.O.C.K and 100% sci-fi.

To conclude: Melotron are back after 5 years. Their EP Stuck In The Mirror gives us a glimpse of what to expect later this year from the album Werkschau. As an EP, Stuck In The Mirror contains some reworked old material, a remix of the title track and some interesting new tracks. Warm up your legs, as Melotron is ready to release more goodness onto our darker dancefloors!
