Artist: DE_Tot_Cor
CD Title: Gothic Light
Label: Self Released
Barcelona's De_Tot_Cor are back with the new LP Gothic Light, the follow up to the “Dead Heart” EP. To be honest, this is a band who I had previously heard of, but sort of glossed over their work until now. So, I suppose I can say I'm starting with fresh ears on this one, and not trying to compare the LP to their previous offerings.
All in all, I have to say, this is not a bad offering. Not ground-breaking, genre-defining or anything of that kind, but a good, solid slice of EBM/ industrial. It's a stompy little fucker of an album, guaranteed to fit nicely on any dancefloor out there. Their bandcamp (which is where I'm listening to it in order to review the album) says: “DE_TOT_COR builds a well-structured electro dark record”, and I'm inclined to agree with them on this. It's certainly well-structured, and well-produced, being nice and clean in it's delivery.
Similarity to, and influence of, other bands? I'm going to go with God Module, Phosgore, I:Scintilla , Nachtmahr and Freakangel on this one. That's the closest artists I can think of to compare “Gothic Light” to. Which is good, because I love all those bands.
Song-wise, it's hard to tell which are the best or worst on first listen, but, I think for my own tastes, and ones that I think would go well on any dancefloor out there, for me it has to be: Album opener “In Love and Death” “Sieg Sieg” “World Made Of Lies” and title-track “Gothic Light”. These are all solid, club-friendly tunes.
So, not the most ground-breaking or genre-spanning album out there, but a very, very worthy addition to any self-respecting Rivetheads collection. And, a steal at only 6.99 on their bandcamp (that's euros). Go check it out and make your own mind up:
