Skinny Puppy is a band you either love or hate. I have never been a fan of them but of course I like the songs that everyone who isn't a hardcore fan likes. So, here I am sitting and listening to their latest album called HanDover.

This is one strange album for sure. The album consists of 11 tracks and is more or less like a roller-coaster ride with ups and downs and twists and turns. Some tracks are straight forward and very melodic like my favorite track “Cullorblind,” which has a very soft and mellow verse which ends up in a very punchy chorus which is also very catchy.

My other favorite track is called “Gambatte” which means more or less good luck in Japanese (I might be wrong thought). This track is also very melodic and a bit weird with a little influence from old-school commodore 64 sounds and some various fx and playful vocals.

Skinny Puppy is a very unique band with synthesizers, guitars (mostly simple ones in the background) and varied vocals which makes them interesting but at the same time a bit too much when it comes to the experimental parts. In my ears half of the album is great and I of course prefer the more “normal” tracks if one can call them that.

There are a few really fucked up tracks (excuse my harsh language) that I don't understand at all but there is probably some hidden message behind those tracks or something but I just don't get it. “Brownstone” is one of them and the other one is the outro track called “Noisex” which almost sounds a bit like drum and bass which has been distorted from hell. HanDover is an album for fans of the band and I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone else even thought it has a few brilliant tracks and grade A production.
