Haujobb- New World March

I remember hearing that there was going to be a new Haujobb album coming out this year and being overwhelmingly excited. The extremely well received single Dead Market, released in July, was just a brief tease for what everyone knew was coming. New World March, out on Tympanik audio, is definitely an album that I would go out of my way to get the physical 2CD Digipack version with the bonus New World March – The Remixes CD. The artwork alone is worth buying the big version of the CD.

Haujobb, the original project of Daniel Myer (Architect, Clear Vision, Forma Tarde, Destroid, Covenant, and many many amazing remixes,) Dejan Samardzic, and Bjorn Juneman, set the mold for me in terms of experimental industrial. Releasing 7 album since 1993, countless singles, and 2 full length remix CDs, Haujobb has come to be one of the best known experimental groups since Aphex Twins. After the release of Vertical Theory in 2003, the members of Haujobb decided to part ways in favor of their solo efforts.

Then, seemingly out of no where, Letting The Demons Sleep (nightmare) appeared on bandcamp.com, along with a brand new music video for the new single Dead Market. Interestingly enough Letting The Demons Sleep (nightmare) did not make the 2 CD full length release New World March, which is still probably my favorite song from the series of new releases.

New World March landed, for me, with a local dance night on 11-11-11, serving as a release party. A good friend of mine was selling the CDs at his store's table at the dance night, and I have to say that the legend of Haujobb did not disappoint sales. The CD was sold out within an hour of midnight.

That being said, New World March is not your club anthem album, as hard as you might try to make some of the tracks work in a dance setting, it just wasn't made for that purpose. Haujobb has never been a dance floor kind of project though. To me it is more art than dance, which is really refreshing (and difficult to pull off in todays market.) The tracks are complex and extremely well constructed, sometimes minimal, sometimes lighthearted, and sometimes dark and mysterious.

A lot of bands are changing their sound now, especially more established long-term bands. I am proud to say that this album is classic Haujobb and will not disappoint any fans of any era of the band. There's a lot of Vertical Theory in there, and a lot of new direction too, but if I were to play the album for you without telling you who it was, you would know instinctively that it was Haujobb.

It has five stars in my book.
