Analog renegades Angelspit return with Larva Pupa Tank Coffin, a remix album of tracks from their previous release “Hideous and Perfect.“ The tracks on Lava Pupa Tank Coffin are at times challenging, but always interesting. The album features eleven tracks in all, with six remixes and three previously unreleased tracks. The remixes aren’t half-baked rehashing of the songs, more like complete rethinking of the songs. The resulting eleven tracks will please hard-core and even casual fans’ ears. The album opens with “Sleep Now” (Angelspit remix); the vocal line lacks the original‘s snarl, and the result seems much more subdued. The noir de soleil remix of “Fink” is very minimalist and 8-bit sounding. It’s an interesting take on the song. “Twenty6hundred”, one of the album’s new tracks, is frenetic and punk-fueled electronica. Perhaps the most dance-floor ready remix track on the album is the Cage23 remix of “Ditch The Rest.” “Hell Was Made Flesh” is a slow, noisy instrumental. The noir de soleil manipulator remix of “Fink” is another fantastic track, dark, and at times, sparse. “Princess Chaos” (Angelspit remix) has a driving beat, and is chaotic and tops out over seven minutes long. In the end, this could be one of the best remix albums this year simply because of the range in which Angelspit allows itself to tear apart and reformulate its songs. There isn’t any filler here, each track is solid. Larva Pupa Tank Coffin demonstrates again why Angelspit is at the top of its genre.
