I have been a fan of the London based electronic/techno group Inertia for quite some time now, but on their ninth full length album and their Metropolis records debut, Universal Blood, something has changed and changed for the better. Reze Udhin, Alexys B and company slowed things down a bit and put the focus on the songwriting rather than on the dance floor, and they have collectively put out what I would deem to be their strongest work from over the past 30 years. Sure songs such as the stellar "Alive", and also tracks such as "Blind" and "Lies" are very catchy and will get everyone moving at the club, but that's not what grabbed my attention about this release, it was the strength and maturity of the entire album. I try not to use comparisons to other groups especially when describing this strong of a release, but I couldn't help feel that the mix of male/female vocals took me to a place somewhere between Iris, Berlin and even a touch of Depeche Mode. Overall a very strong release by this longtime electro act and Universal Blood is one album that won't leave my music rotation any time soon.
