Biography:

Veteran electronic artist Laurent Boudic is preparing the release of NÖVÖ's 4th full length album "Zeitgeist" on his new label-home: Alfa Matrix. "I Flee", the first single taken from this forthcoming album reveals a radical return to the roots for Laurent Boudic and the period when he was active in the Belgian Electronic Body Music scene back in the good old 80's…Sharp and precise electronic sequencers, vintage analogue synths and straightforward more prominent vocals along with some vocoder backings. NÖVÖ serves us here a brilliant appetizer from an album that will plunge us back in the good old classic EBM league evoking FRONT 242's "Geography", TRISOMIE 21's"The Last Dance" or yet FAD GADGET's "Collapsing New People"… Enjoy without moderation these 7' and Extended versions next to the lush pure electronic remakes from Franck Kartell and Flood Veyor.

I flee (Extended version)

With deep and sumptuous dark rhythms and a haunting monotone voice this track slowly releases its life and marks its territory. The atmosphere is heavy and eerie the suspension intense. Predatory and creepy its strenuous arms slowly move towards the jugular with tendrils of intrigue smothered in mystique. One very poignant track that’s good to listen to in total darkness with the volume up.

I flee (FRANCK KARTELL remix)

Even creepier than the last track with a stunted voice that echoes eerily amid squeaky noises and a thickening rhythm – it sends chills down the spine as it opens up to fully engage in its own glory. The mad little flurries of choppy synth brushes the senses and coaxes you into a dream-like state.

I flee (Parallel world remix by FLOOD VEYOR)

This is so sharp you could cut yourself on it. Bringing out its sequencers full guns blazing, the voice that is haunting lends itself to the aural but only to lull you into its dark fantasy. The teasing melodic flavours bind themselves to a solid drum beat amid incidental noises that serve their purpose by adding a chill to the atmospherics.

I flee (7’ version)

More ambient creepiness but shorter lived than the first track. But giving the listener another chance to wrap themselves in the haunting presence of a swirling atmosphere and returning you once more to NÖVÖ’s magical world.

To Sum up:

Devilishly strong and uncompromising this sinister E.P basks in eeriness and dark ambience. I used to listen a lot to Fad Gadget back in the day as well as Cabaret Voltaire and witnessed the same feeling as I got when listening to this fine E.P. The malevolence hides behind a sheet of pulsing monotone rhythms that send you into another musical realm.

It is without doubt a serious listen that begs your attention and of course gets it due to the strong compulsive nature of the tracks. One minute sending cold chills through your veins the next you find beads of sweat on your forehead because you are concentrating so hard on its dark matter.

A very intense listen, superbly created and well produced.

10/10
