With an affinity for retro analog electronics and vocoders, new Scandinavian electro-pop outfit Flux are adept at weaving catchy melodies with driving synth bass lines and steady electronic rhythms. The maxi-single for the song "Electric Woman" contains four mixes of the title track as well as its video and the additional track "Pulsar (Tseburex Special)".
The featured track here is the single's video edit, punchy pulsating synth bass backing infectious synth melodies, creating a laid-back modern-retro electro-pop beauty complete with vocoded vocals. All 3 lengthier alternate versions are also noteworthy, including the song's original 7-minute "lo-fi" version and two club-oriented remixes that do a nice job of beefing up the original's rhythmic content without losing its melodic vibe. The video, presented in mpg format, is a foray into quirky animated fare, suiting the song well, while the beautifully moody instrumental b-side "Pulsar" rounds things out nicely.
A nice slice of melodic electro, Flux's Electric Woman single is a memorable outing that hopefully foreshadows bigger things to come.
