And One released Zerstorer in January of this year, as a teaser to their upcoming LP, Tanzomat. While the focus of the EP are the new songs, inclusion of live tracks and some clever “remixes” make Zerstorer a must-have for And One fans.
Opening up the EP, the new songs Zerstorer, No Song for You and Sex Drive, have the sound of And One classics like Panzermensch, or Technoman. Simple yet solid beats, with choppy synths and a dead pan delivery to the vocals. It's not to say the new songs are bad, just that they are representative of And One's two trademark styles. The other style being that of a more flowing and melodic pop track like So Klingt Liebe or Get You Closer.
Zerstorer also features live versions of songs like Mirror in Your Heart, and Secret which do an excellent job of relaying the energy and fun of an And One live show. Closing out the EP is a remix of Zerstorer and the "original" version of Military Fashion Show. This rendition of the 2006 hit single, is done in a rockabilly style, which fits the tempo and pace of the song very well. It's also a fun play on the club hit as this reviewer has seen both versions pack a dance floor equally well.
If you are a diehard And One fan, Zerstorer is a worthwhile purchase. The combination of new material, some live tracks and the original version of Military Fashion Show make it feel like a full experience and not just a new single. While the new songs are nothing groundbreaking, they are faithful to And One's sound, and a very nice glimpse into what we can expect from their upcoming LP due out digitally in Mid-March 2011.
