The Garland Cult is slickly-produced pop/electro from Dublin, Ireland. Their album, “Monster” features eleven tracks. The tracks on the album are lush, diverse and well-crafted pop.
The album opens with “30th Century Man” which sound borders on apocalyptic folk. Other songs like “Beautiful Girls” have diverse instrumentation including synths and horns and are much more new-wave influenced. “Tantalize” has a falsetto wail to the vocals. “Blind” opens with a cool jazzy riff, and opens into an expansive chorus. “Perfect Beat (Take Me To LA)” recalls some of the best of eighties electro-pop. “Glory Glory” is very electronic and upbeat. “Ether” is a gentle, poppy, love song, with a strange spacey outro. “Out of Pitch (But Still In Tune)” recalls shades of Bowie, who seems an obvious influence. “Feel Good” is a slow-paced ballad. “The Raven” is an ambient soundscape with erie vocals.
For fans of 80’s electro-pop, The Garland Cult has much to offer. Not that the band’s sound is dated, the album is very modern. But, The Garland Cult’s sound will be familiar to those who remember the era.
