16 Volt just might be one of the hardest working bands in industrial music. Hardly any time elapsed from 2009’s American Porn Songs, to American Porn Songs Remixed, and in that time, Eric Powell and Co, were bringing the music live with Chemlab and Left Spine Down on the Midi-Ghetto tour. Without missing a step, the songs of American Porn Songs Remixed features 18 tracks and a wide variety of contributors. The album is a remix album of the songs found on American Porn songs.The album opens with Mirror’s remix of “Alkali”. It’s a great song on a standout track from the last album. The Skold version of the title track follows, which slowly builds into a driving industrial beat. Sparrow’s remix of “Become Your None” slams the listener. The Villainous remix of “Useless People” is another standout track, striking a nice balance between guitar and electronic elements. The LSD remix of “Alkali” strips the song down and slows it down to a simple bass-line and vocals in the verse. It’s an interesting take to strip the song to its basic elements. The Drone version of “It All Turns Bad” is a blistering take on that song. Cold delivers a remix of “Alkali” which mixes guitars with orchestral flourishes, very interesting at the least. Team Cybergeist serves up another great take on their version of American Porn Songs.Obviously, American Porn Songs Remixed is a superb album, and a must-have for fans of coldwave in general, and fans of 16 Volt in particular. Some of the remix contributors may be a little lessor known, but the contributions here are various and often stellar. Check out this album, and familiarize yourself with 16 Volt, if you are not already.
