Begun as an instrumental project, Boston-based Ground to Dust is an industrial act that includes some ambient, ethereal influences. Formed in 2007, the band released a self-titled E.P. and then recruited recruited singer Leanne and began to pick up festivals and shows with the likes of Unter Null, C/A/T, and De/Vision. The 14 track “Everything Ends” is their first full-length release. The album opens with the instrumental “Action,” a song which owes to its ambient and noise influences. “Subconscious Overdrive”’s arrangement gives vocalist Leanne’s vocals room to soar through the arrangement. “Zu Staub” is another instrumental track, there’s some interesting drum programming and strong synth lines. “Complicate” mixes both ethereal and noise influences with Leanne's plaintive vocals, it’s a standout track on the album. “Everything Ends” has another nice arrangement, with a hypnotic interlude section. “Abandon” features a soulful vocal delivery with its electronics. The album has slightly fewer instrumental tracks than tracks with vocals. Still, fans of ambient will find a lot to like here, even if the ambient tracks are still danceable. On the tracks with vocals, Ground to Dust’s versatile vocalist adds interest to many of the arrangements.
