Artist: Cancer Killing Gemini CD Title: Cancer Killing Gemini E.P. Label: Unsigned Reviewer: Robert Eaton Date: 5-11-10
Boston’s Cancer Killing Gemini is an industrial rock band that will appeal to fans of Filter and guitar-oriented industrial rock. CKG’s songs feature crushing distorted guitars with a tight pop sensibility. The band currently is at work on a full-length album “It Only Hurts When We Breathe.”The E.P. opens with the crunchy “Christcontrol.” Fans of Filter or Skold will find themselves in familiar territory. Opening with a synth-dominated groove, the song quickly morphs with a wall of distorted guitars. “All Alone With Me” shows a little more of the band’s influence of melodic electronic rock like Portishead, with it’s melodic interlude and programming. “Should I Tell You That You’re Pretty” is a melodic tribute to a one-night stand. The E.P. features well-crafted songs, with a nice mix of the light and dark sides of electronic music. For fans of the more straightforward electronic rock of the 1990’s, Cancer Killing Gemini brings the goods. The band’s mix of indie-rock and electronics is pretty refreshing. https://www.cancerkillinggemini.com |
