We Got This Far is taking industrial rock to the old days, not only in terms of their sound but also because their debut release is a promotional 12-inch vinyl pressing. Of the four tracks on this album, three are extremely different versions of title track "Bludgeon." The first is a crunchy industrial march full of deliberately low-fi keyboards and thickly distorted vocals. There's guitar squeal as well, but it's buried beneath the pounding rhythm section and gurgling vocals work; it's heavy, blunt and pounding, so "Bludgeon" is nothing if not a fitting title. Alternate version "Dark Passenger (Bludgeon)" is similarly low-fi, but underneath the rumble of broken speakers is a hint of modernity in the form of chopped glitches. "Draining to Nowhere (Bludgeon)" is cleaner; though still heavy, the guitars and vocals are brighter, more melodic, more recognizable as rock music. Finally, finishing things up is "Misstep," another relatively straightforward rock offering with huge crunchy guitars backed by a thunderous beats and bass. The antithesis of slick, this is dirty old-fashioned industrial rock the way it was meant to be, so check it out if you're a fan of early Pigface or Revolting Cocks.
