Black Magician, from the United Kingdom, have released an EP titled The Pursuivant. While part of the revival of old-school doom and occult rock that we see nowadays, Black Magician serve up their soup in an quintessential British fashion.

The Pursuivant contains only 3 tracks, good for 13 minutes of music. Just like the other old-school doom revival bands, Black Magician are deeply referring to Candlemass. The vocals remind me of Alice Cooper, and make the music more interesting.

While the first track on The Pursuivant is too deeply rooted in the standard sound of the old-school doom revival, the next two tracks make me want to hear more of Black Magician.

On “Grene Knyght”, we hear a blend of 70s psychedelia, English folk music and old rock music. While this might sound quite accessible as a sound, the result is dense and occult: the dark topics and the restless undertone give additional layers to this track.

Generally, Black Magician give us some pretty groovy music on The Pursuivant: this tastes to more, and I'm looking forward to a full album by Black Magician. If you like occult rock, do check them out.
