Voodoma, a dark metal act from Düsseldorf, Germany that has been around for over a decade, have released a new CD Bridges To Disturbia. Voodoma sound like modern metal, using electronics and darkwave influences as well as typical metal riffs.

Bridges To Disturbia contains 11 tracks, mostly in mid-tempo and, unfortunately, there is not that much variation on the album. Are Voodoma a one-trick pony? Saying so would go a bridge too far, as there are interesting twists and turns on the album that are worth to listen to.

The gentlemen of Voodoma play a type of music that is packed with energy. Kudos to the very solid rhythm section of the band, and the steady drums. The vocals are sometimes a little less stable.

The opening track “Evolution” gives you an overview of what you can expect: a solid combination of synthesizer sounds (in this track reminiscent of Dark Passion Play by Nightwish) and steady rock. “My Religion” is one of the highlights of the album, with its atmospheric synthesizer and Tiamat-like riffs – too bad the higher notes on the track are not within the comfortable reach of the vocalist.

“Wasted By Daylight” is marked by its pumping drums, while the fourth track “Rebirth” completely pulls the electronic rock card. “Doomsday Messiah” tells a story in the vein of the great prog rock masters of Dream Theater, and the subsequent “Pray” returns the floating Tiamat-like gothic rock style.

The metal kicks back in on “Another Me”, and the layer of club-oriented electronica is added back on “The Devil Dances”. The dark, menacing “Jesus Crime” is a welcome change from the beat-happy electro-rock of the rest of Bridges To Disturbia.

The poppy “One Second in Life” precedes the final track, the over 6-minutes-long epic “Slave Of Light, King Of Dreams” with its beautifully layered backing vocals on the intro.

In short, you can summarize Bridges To Disturbia by Voodoma as uncomplicated feel-good metal. This record is perfect for a morning at work when you need a pop of energy, or a long car-drive.
