Artist: Vinculum Terminatii
Title: Omnis Decido
Label: Unsigned
This is an excellent doom metal demo from Providence, Rhode Island resident Nicolas. Sounding nothing like a self-produced album and more like a professionally recorded album from a veteran of the genre, VT takes you on a somber journey to the darkest recesses of your mind. Tastefully melding female vocals by Megan Vogt with the death growls from Nicolas, the songs on Omnis Decido are kept on the heavier side and only use Vogt's voice when necessary. Vinculum Terminatii remind me a lot of Brave Murder Day era Katatonia, but the acoustic tracks show more of an October Tide (Katatonia members Fredrik Norrman & Jonas Renske side project) influence. The drums are performed well by Henkka from Withering (Fin). The best thing about this album besides the musicianship is that I didn't get bored. It didn't turn into background music for me like it seems a lot of the bands performing this style seem to. This has been done before, and done better as well. For an unsigned and self produced band though, this album is really good. I think they can become well known within the doom metal field.
