The new album An Ocean Between Us from As I lay Dying is pretty awesome. It is not as good as the last album but it has many strengths. Among these strengths is that the album has a very radio friendly quality, which is happy hardcore with many power chords being played☺ There is also a lot more singing compared to the last album, which gives the songs a really nice dynamic. Of course this many be a big disappointment for the hardcore fans.

Another strength is the songwriting; many of the songs on the album have different songwriting approaches, which I can appreciate. Nothing can be more disappointing than listening to an album that sounds all the same with no character. Also, the production is great. One downside of this album is that there are a few songs that sound way too generic.

This album is certainly metal and but yet, quite alternative sounding. The best songs on this album are An Ocean Between Us, Forsaken, and The Sound of Truth.
