Artist: Dead Flim Star CD Title: Final Co'Da II Label: N/a Reviewer: Julie Johnson Date: 7/12/04 |
Dead Film Star is a heavy hitting mix of industrial and gothic rock. They have a certain swing to their music that I like very much. You are not going to find a lot of EBM here, just plain heavy industrial rock and just the right amount of electronics to add to the darker side here. I heard shades of Depeche Mode's "Mercy in You" in the first track, called "Showstopper (Do'in It F'the Kids' Part 1”. This song had a very raw vocal sound that reminded me of Placebo meets Marilyn Manson. This music is guitar driven, and the guitar has this gritty quality to it. “The Day We Lost You" has quite a bit of guitar distortion that really stands out, and there are lots of different guitar riffs and hooks taking place. It makes for an interesting music sandwich of sounds. "Rockstar Dead" has awesome drumming and hot guitars! This song has a very Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson type of punch. This is definitely one of the better tracks on this CD. This is definitely what industrial rock is all about, and I could listen to "Rockstar Dead" all day. Other worthwhile tracks would be "III Fated", which is upbeat and full of raw guitar power, and the more moody "Raison D'Etra”. This is very different, and, after you hear it, your opinion could really go either way.
