Artist: Deviant CD Title: pornoGothicEP Label: SelfReleased- Reviewer: Julie Johnson Date: 7/13/04 |
This is a CD that I fell in love with right away. Deviant's self-released "pornoGothic Ep" is a strong three song release for this band from England. The band’s sound is an amazing cross between gothic and industrial with clean-cut electronics. I feel that, with the mix of these two styles and the band's electronics, Deviant should be able to cross over to the mainstream. They have a more industrial rock side with heavy crunchy guitars and plenty of programming that is rather catchy in my opinion. One of the noticeable aspects of this band can also be found within the vocals, and after one listen you’re going to wonder if that is Gary Numan singing. Yes, the singer sounds very much like Gary Numan. I do believe that this singing style is in the band’s favor. I don't really find it to be a problem, but others might. I hope that people will hear Deviant for who they are. It is about the music, and the music is quite good. "Access Denied" is probably the strongest track, followed by "Angel One". All three songs on the EP are attention getting and are pretty much the same musically with a lot of edge and great electronics. "Living For Sin" tends to be the darkest of the three tracks. I am confident that Deviant will have a very promising future ahead after hearing this release.
