The themes of dark and romantic are fused with a bright and engaging Progressive rock attitude and a tip of the hat to the beloved Voltaire. Gothic Prog Rock anyone??? The songwriting is very complex and beautiful with a shimmer of gloom that keeps the listener engaged and enthralled. Songs like "24fps" (frames per second), "NecRomance"
and "The Reformation" have complex rhythms and even more compex lyrics that might have you reaching for a Thesaurus and another sip of your favorite concoction. I love the narrative style of this music that is a departure
from the dance-driven dark disco that I usually listen to and play on the dancefloor. A good album to snuggle up with your soulmate or friend-for-the-night and drink in with all it's deep themes and allusions.
The man behind the marvellous metaphor and intriguing slight of hand is Ian Stone, producer, songwriter and musician. His guitar playing is at a level seldom heard in this genre and is intricate and adroit all at once. The syncopy of Piano and Guitar is marvellous and speaks of years fine tuning and practice. I love the melding of styles here and brings me back to my own yesteryear of metal soldiering.
