Out of the rot and mire of the bloody abattoir floor comes the horror inspired electro industrial act PROJECT ROTTEN. Formed in July 2009 as a side project for the frenetic frontman of MENSCHDEFEKT , Frederik Croona or Rubber Duckie to his fans, PROJECT ROTTEN became a new much more heavily horror inspired project for Frederik C. MENSCHDEFEKT appearing as a hard hitting aggressive industrial act, borrowing heavily from classic Gothic Rock influences like Alien Sex Fiend as well as Future Pop and EBM acts like Assemblage 23 and VNV Nation. Frederik’s addition to vocals lent a caustic Industrial edge that strongly marked the act and set it apart from other much more pop oriented acts being picked up. His side project, PROJECT ROTTEN, gives Frederik and his signature vocal style a much more grisly and vitriolic setting to play with.
After creating two tracks himself in producing the demo “Machine made Flesh”, Frederik decided he needed direct assistance. Adding Ani and X/209 to the lineup, the act released their first demo in August of 2009 garnering great reviews and attention. Later in December of 2009, the act released their first EP titled “Bleed you dry”. In 2010 PROJECT ROTTEN underwent a lineup change as Ani left the band while X/209 and Federik set about to create the acts album “The Freakshow”. “Remixing The Flesh” is the recent launch of aggressive remixes off of the club album “The Freakshow”.
The opening track “Embraced by Flames, Remixed by ES23” is an explosive frenetic dance track remixed by MENSCHDEFEKT’s live synth producer. From the very opening synth riffs you’re compelled to the dance floor to stomp and groove. “Buried Alive” remixed by Chilean horror industrial act JUST SAY WORDS is a perfect complement to Frederik’s acrid vocal talent. This track blends epic hypnotic grooves with pulse pounding bass rhythms creating a volatile concoction that will get your pulse racing. Their second additional remix of the track “Nightmares” is eerie and hackle raising as you’re lulled into the frightening eerie world that Frederik creates in knit and stitched horrific style.
French act AD INFERNA ads a much more shadowy remix to the “Embraced by flames” track. Mexico City’s ANAMADIM creates a stripped down and slick dance track of “Nightmares”. “The Lust to Kill” (Melancholic Version) slows down the album with low deep drum machine beats and darkwave inspired synth grooves. German EBM act INCUBITE masterfully remixes “Scream” into a glistening slick track that leaves your skin crawling and your feet moving. The last track rounding out the remix collection is a previously unreleased gem titled “Desecrating the Dead”. A haunting electro tune aptly fit in the darkest of haunted clubs.
This collection of remixes took me genuinely by surprise. I’m rather used to a remix collection being a hashed together collection by a few choice hot artists from the United States or the UK with little actual semblance of the contributing artists style and talent being present in the final remixed product. Instead, it’s often a hack ploy to garner attention for other established artists off of the success of the new hip signed act. Not so with this collection! “Remixing the Flesh” showcases acts from all over the world lending their talent and support to PROJECT ROTTEN’s as yet newly minted underground efforts. This collection much like Frederik’s previous works are every bit as meticulously crafted and delightfully ghoulish as in his prior tracks. Keep a wayward eye on this act. For as soon as the word breaks, this terror inspiring act will be a grave hit on the dance floors of the world.
