AM Psych’s release, Side Effects, packs quite a punch for an EP. The EP itself shows off the band in a Jekyll and Hyde kind of way with its first five tracks being normal mixes and the last four being remixes. Playing along the border of Cold Wave and Industrial music the sound stays heavy with its distorted guitars and angry vocals and yet keeps its Coldwave appeal with its keyboard and electric drum sounds. One song, or songs, to definitely give a listen to is “The Crux.” The original has a heavier and darker feel to it, while the ‘Sordid Future Mix by Mark Verbos’ has a calmer dance friendly approach, giving us two sides to the same story. These guys, and gal, from Milwaukee have got a good thing going and there is no question as to why they been referred to as a "serious force in the Milwaukee Industrial music scene."
The band’s local popularity has grown since their rebirth from a few lineup changes in the past and it has paid off with them having opening slots for Project .44 and Skinny Puppy. Currently the group is working in the studio on the follow up to the Side Effects EP. If this EP is just a taste of what this band brings to the table, then a full album is a meal I look forward to devouring.
