Trigger 10d’s second, self-titled, album showcases the band’s shift in direction to a much more organic, live sound. The band’s sound is a raw indie-rock sound, with live drums, guitars and live bass. Electronics are kept to a supporting role, the album’s 10 tracks showcase a female-fronted, straight-forward rock album. The album opens with the rocker, “Misplaced.” The song even includes a decidedly un-electronica cow-bell. “Lullaby” makes the most of a distorted bass groove and meandering guitars. “Skies Gone Dark” pairs shimmering, clean guitars with orchestral touches, record scratches, and soft, understated vocals. “A-list” is lo-fi rock, and good fun. “Kiss the Door” is slower, with almost a lounge-music feel. “Roadside“ is an instrumental guitar track. “Whip You Wicked” is very jazzy, and is the better of the softer-rock songs on the album. All the songs are within the context of indie-rock, but this album tries on a lot of hats. While Trigger 10d’s album marks a major departure from its previous release, it could find an audience with those who favor indie-rock. Trigger 10d’s fans that remember the band as an electronica act may be slightly put off. However, for what the album is, it’s not a bad alt-rock album.
