Reviews CD Reviews (EBM, Electro, Electronica) MyParasites- Emotional Starvation EP

Artist: MyParasites

CD Title: : Emotional Starvation EP

Label: Self-Released

Reviewer: Matthew J.

Date: 11-18-10

Having added guitarists and a truly aggressive live show, MyParasites have gone in more of a straight industrial direction since releasing this debut EP, which is geared more of the dance floor than the pit, but there's plenty here for fans of all stripes of dark and heavy music. "You and I Was All" kicks things off with thumping beats and nerve-wracking synths, then "Metal Veins" slips into something more atmospheric, all moody pads and spooky clanks, before launching into a high-speed rollicking series of club beats and keyboards that's bouncy in spite of its sneering, vocoder-laced vocals. Title track "Emotional Starvation" takes on more of an electro flavor with its sharp-edged sequencing and rolling breakbeats, while "Fragile Hearts" is classic terror EBM, its vocals both mechanical and tortured, all set to a hypnotic bass pulse. While MyParasites' work isn't as polished as that of some of their contemporaries, that's to their benefit; the grit here just makes their musical assault all the more aggressive, and this EP will appeal especially to fans of Psyclon Nine's early work.
