Breathe

The Laughing Dolls

Synthetic Symphony

By Julie Johnson

Breathe comes from former member of Placebo Effect Alex Machens. Breathe has some of the darkest electronics that will haunt you within. If you like dark experimental sounds, this is for you. “Tales”, the opening track brings us into a dark sinister world that is cold and sets you up for more action. “The Laughing Dolls” track tow, is dark, and has many lurking sounds of deep programming, that has nightmarish but precise vocals that give a chilling feeling. “Fallen Angel” has more of a dark upbeat programming approach, and could be heard of the dancefloor. Again, the music is fueled by dark haunting programming, the makes you feel trapped in your own mind. Definitely one of the highlights this album brings to us. “Tenebre”, is a fast paced song, with distorted vocals, and more likely to be a dancefloor single. This is a perfect spot on the album for this song to come in, a good lift. “One million miles ” is a slower song that could be like a dark ballad. The CD also offers a couple of instrumental pieces as well, and another slower song. So, don’t get your hopes up for a fast danceable dark CD, it is very dark, and on the downbeat, but a very cool CD. I definitely think Alex has found his vision.
