My first introduction to Das Ich was thier 2001 remix cd, Relaborat(which featured remixes by the likes of Funker Vogt, VNV Nation and In Strict Confidence.) I really didn't have much interest in thier other material. After their last album, Lava, it seemed they were returning making dark inspired dance music. I was expecting a continuation of Lava for thier newest release, Cabaret. What I heard on this album was something complelty different. Cabaret seems to focus on a much more goth inspired sound, unlike Lava which was more industrial. I found some of the tracks difficult to get into, not because they were in German, but they felt odd. There were some standout tracks like "opferzeit" but the rest of the songs just sounded like the previous ones. While Das Ich is more of a crossover group, rather than sticking to one specific music style, they incoperate other sounds. I was just left confused by this album, it went from goth to industrial to dark sounding carnival music. Fans of Das Ich will enjoy this album, but seekers of industrial will not find this appealing as much as I did.
