Artist: Winter

CD Title:Deceit EP (CD)

Label:Winter Productions

Review: by Julie Johnson 8/02

Winter is an edgy alternative rock act headed by Maneesh Sharma. You can also catch Filter's drummer on this CD, but won't feel the same drum beats as Filter. Maneesh has a catchy voice that soars with the music, and gives the music uplift. The guitar has a crunchy feel and makes a great beat, especially in the first track "Inside (Part 1& part 2) I really liked the first part the best. It had a lot of drive, but then part 2 comes. It was quiet, and instrumental string sounds mixed with a robotic vocal. It was not very loud, and had to turn it up more to hear it. I would have liked to heard more of Inside Part 1, and had Part 2 a separate track or not have it at all, as I did not see it fitting in very well. After listening, I have realized that the tracks go along, and are like poetic stories. "Essic Amor," was back to the more alternative pop sound. The song has an acoustic feel to it. It was different then the first song. The vocals were good for this song's mood. This was also a more mellow song. "Made a new Decision" has more acoustic feel, and has strong drumming. The guitar kicks in more during the main chorus, and is used when needed in the song, and I feel there was more of acoustic energy. "Deceit"( Part 1& 2) is back to the more edgy alternative rock feel, and more guitar energy. There are a couple of nice guitar solos that should catch the listener's attention. This song also tends to have more of darker tone, but not a gothic tone, just real moody. "This turning Dream" also has a moody feel, and the guitars are one of the driving forces. I hear a lot of Smiths and David Bowie influence on this EP, but Winter definitely has their own personality. "One Single Breath," was good. This song was all instrumental, and it has a very rocking feel with good melodies. One thing that I can say is that this CD is very consistent.
