Chords of Truth, music as composed by Jason Garriotte, have a whopping number of 3 CDs to review: the originally acoustic Reflections of Reality, and the double CD Reflections of Reality Remixed Project.

First and foremost – Jason has these three CDs available for streaming on the Chords of Truth website, so if the description "folktronica" rings no bell for you, you can simply listen to all the tracks online.

Now, let's start with the acoustic CD Reflections of Reality, which consists of seven tracks. All these tracks are great singer-songwriter music, very reminiscent of 60s anti-war icons like Melanie Safka, and, because of Jason's voice, the music simply shouts Bob Dylan to me.

Strong lyrics, simple yet catchy tunes and a layer of melancholia – the entire acoustic album is a joy to listen to. Highlights of the release are the up-tempo “Listen” and melancholic “When I Was Wasted”, that could directly be sung in an Irish pub.

The remixes on Reflections of Reality Remixed Project come in many different ways. Momentum delivered folkhouse remixes, Tha Green Raver folkstep remixes, Chameleon acidfolk remixes, Lordbret tribalfolk remixes, Oraku indie remixes, Oopoe electrofolk remixes, Venumb dubstep remixes and Acid Nab laptopfolk remixes.

A mouthful – or better: 2 discs full of remixes, 26 tracks in total. While I appreciated the acoustic disc very much, I totally dig the remixes: it feels like transcending the 60s nostalgia and actually bringing it into the 21^st century.

In 2012 we saw dubstep seeping into many electro and electronic rock releases. One of the remixes that is worth being highlighted is the last of CD1: Venumb's spookstep remix of “Tune Your Mind”. Corroded Master's industrial folk remix of “Listen” is ready to invade a darker dancefloor.

To sum it up: Chords of Truth is a multi-sided project. While the acoustic Reflections of Reality give honest heart-felt singer-songwriter music, the double CD Reflections of Reality Remixed Project combines electronica and folk in a fresh and innovative way.
