“The Single "Reality Bites / Someone To Love" grants the desire for more and is a very good foretaste of the upcoming EMERALD PARK album, coming this autumn.”
My thoughts on this production:
Reality Bites
The opening guitar with the atmospheric layer on top of it really sets the mood of how it flows throughout the song. The strings in this track add a warm feeling accompanying the attack of the acoustic guitars. The rhythm guitar does not change one bit, however the song isn’t that long to really notice it. I find the guitar solo isn’t Pink Floyd, but I love the notes in which it adds a good tonal impression. I want to say that the drums are just there to carry on the rhythm while adding straight forward offbeat flares for the whole piece. I really dig how the warm male vocals and the female backup vocals compliment each other. In a way I can see what the artist was trying to achieve with this track.
Someone To Love
This track has to be my favorite out of the two. When I first heard this song I couldn’t help but laugh due to the beginning vocal line saying “I was trying to get laid.” The background vocals coated with reverb adds a good lush feeling to the main vocal. I love it when bands don’t use the preset sound of a guitar and use another type of sound like the mandolin. I like how the strings in this track, which acts as the bass and melody at the same time. The drums are very minimal, but it fits well with this track. If it there was any more type of percussion, it could be what most say as overkill. The vocals coated with reverb adds a good lush feeling to the main vocal, which in some parts helps push the song where it needs to be. I wish I could have heard more piano, but that’s just the classical part of me.
Over all sound:
I feel that this 2 track album was mixed very well and the levels were spot on. I love the use of electronic sounds underneath the real sounds.
Recommended listening situation:
I recommend listening to this production in the car driving down the highway, on a Romantic Comedy soundtrack, and in a coffee shop.
Would I buy it? No
On a scale from 1 to 10:
1 = I’m using it for target practice
10 = I have three backup copies in case zombies break out.
Answer = 8
Why?
Now I say I wouldn’t buy it for the simple fact it is not my style of music. I can say that these two songs are beautiful in their own right. To tell you the truth, that is why I gave this album an 8. However, if this came up in the recommended situations like I stated earlier, I would crank up the volume and sing “I was trying to get laid” along with it.
Final Thoughts:
You defiantly would like this, if you like Indie pop or sappy love songs that have good catchy riffs.
