Toronto-based The Silk Demise has released a companion album, “Music for a Film”, to their July 2009 release “Midnight Eyes.” “Music for a Film” begins with the atmospheric and creepy track “Sightless.” The percussion during “Sightless” along with the whole record for that matter sounds big and tight. Another highlight is “Kathulu” which sounds like a more layered, dense Portishead track. My personal favorite, though, is “Seduisante.” It opens with an ethereal pad and continues with various sounds/noises and a minimalistic piano melody. The song progresses beautifully and will take you on a musical and artistic journey.
Although one could say the general mood of the album is repetitive, it is packed with lots of interesting sounds and melodies to keep a moving flow. It is also definitely meant to be listened to in its entirety, which makes for a very interesting soundtrack, if you will. The only critiques I have for this release is that I wish there would be more dramatic differences between songs, and I would really love to know which movies inspired each song. Overall, this is a great album and definitely worth a free download and a listen all the way through.
