Now, unless you are reading this on an IPad that was incorrectly delivered to a cave somewhere, then its unlikely you will need telling who Electric Six are.

But since you now have that IPad, I will tell you anyway ;)

Electric Six burst onto the scene in 2003 with the breakthrough hit "High Voltage" which featured an interesting rock duet, complete with crazy Saxophone solos, and a video that can only be described as disturbing.

This was then followed later in the year by the fantastically ridiculous "Gay Bar", which blended a ludicrously catchy tune with a "fabulously" camp vocal hook.

However, things had gone a little more quiet since then, in the mainstream at least, with Electric Six releasing 7 albums between that and "Zodiac", that haven't reached the same heights commercially at least.

Not much has changed in the general sound of Electric Six, but their use of Electronics has definitely increased, particularly in the 80's synth sound department, which suits their upbeat rock style nicely and adds a funky layer at key times on the album.

It is very hard not to enjoy the generally fun and upbeat nature of Electric Six, and they do like to mix their sound up a bit, with the distinctive vocals and amusing lyrics meaning they will often leave you with a smile on your face.

However, there just isn't much depth to what they provide, and I suppose there doesn't need to be.

The biggest problem with Electric Six and "Zodiac" is that it sits in-between genres, straddling Pop, Rock, Electro and probably a couple of others too, without ever offering enough for the hardcore fans of each genre.

So...if you are looking to listen to some interesting and amusing pop music, Electric Six have all the ingredients for you, and they do silliness very well, but this is not a classic, and you may well end up taking your favourites off of the album for your IPod and leaving the rest behind.
