Some old-school industrial fans may tell you that Pigface has lost it. They are dead wrong. Martin Atkins and crew proved it on last year’s United I Tour, now captured on DVD. This was perhaps the band’s strongest lineup ever, with newer faces joining the ranks of longtime Pigface alumni. The video starts off Pigface founder Martin Atkins introducing the rest of the band members – and there are about a dozen of them this time around – before launching into a brutal version of “Suck.” The newer members more than live up to the Pigface reputation. Bile’s Krztoff is as heavy a guitarist as they come, and Seibold’s vocals on “Insect/Suspect” are just as effectively pissed off and snotty as his work with Hate Department. The real new star, though, is Voodou’s Michelle Walters, whose throaty singing on “Divebomber” is even better than the original and whose shouts on “Mind Your Own Business” prove that women play aggressive music just as good as men, if not more so. More familiar faces make plenty of appearances, too. Chris Connelly is looking mean with a shaved head and sounding even meaner on classics like “Murder, Inc.” and “Weightless,” while Curse Mackey and Dirk Flanagan share vocal duties on what may be the best ever of “Auto Hag” yet. The crowd is clearly into all of it, and even better, the quality of this video (produced by Seibold’s company) is professional enough that even casual fans that haven’t seen the band live will enjoy this. The next time some “old school” poseur tells you that Pigface hasn’t been good since the “Asshole” tour, stick this in the DVD player. That’ll shut ‘em up.
