Melotron- Cliche

With German vocals, bouncy synthesizers, and a hint of techno rhythm to keep up the pace, Melotron's new album is sure to appeal to fans of Depeche Mode and Wolfsheim. These are songs that will fill dance floors but stand up to repeated listening outside the club setting. "Halt Mich Fest" and "Wenn Wir Wollten" are fine high-energy dance tracks, and the excellent "Lebensrauf" adds progressive trance elements with epic crescendos alternating with more delicate piano melodies. The slower pieces here are just as good, if not better; "Einfach So" incorporates a jazzy stand-up bass effect for a sound that's deliciously warm and organic, while the minimal analog waltz of "Alles Gesagt" is playfully weird enough to suggest the Legendary Pink Dots. Even the more EBM-influenced tracks like "Stirb Fur Mich" incorporate enough soaring string pads and vocal harmonies to give this album an appeal much broader than you'd expect from a German dance act, and it's easy to imagine goths as well as industrial fans pestering their favorite DJs to play more Melotron.
