Artist: Idoru CD Title: Promo sampler Label: N/a Reviewer: Kyle Kucate Date: 4/4/04 |
Idoru is a new synth-pop trio from San Franciso. While there is a lot of synth-pop bands out there, it would be often difficult to spot this band out from anyone else. Idoru shows the same synth-pop qualities, but with a female lead. Often at times,Idoru sounds liked a blend of older Depeche Mode and Ladytron. "16 ft of broken glass" is the opening track. Starting off with a spooky synth line and then breaking out into the vocals. The next track "the brink" could possibly be a dancefloor hit. Male vocals accompany this song. This song almost sounded like a synthy Morrisey song. I felt that this song would have been better if Idoru would have kept the female vocals, but having amale lead didn't hurt this dancey tune at all. The final track "the bitter fruit" sounded like "see you again" by Depeche Mode. It is somewhat impossible not to compare Idoru to Depeche Mode, but I think it isthe best way to describe Idoru's music. I really liked Idoru music. Even tough I am not that much of a fan of modern synth-pop, I must say this promo made me think again. For anyone who is seeking some good old fashioned synth-pop with a bit of a new twist.
