Reviews CD Reviews Synthpop, New Wave Bunker Soldier- Triple Threat

Artist: Bunker Soldier
CD Title: Triple Threat EP
Label: Neo Cultural Front Records
Reviewer: Matthew Johnson
Date: 10/17/04

Bunker Soldier’s newest CD starts off with “Warlocked,” a blast of mid-tempo breakbeats and sitar that immediately calls to mind Pigface’s “Kiss King” before launching into a more relaxed groove that trails off into Arabic drums. “Flying” is fluffy synthpop, with airy female vocals held aloft by tightly produced electronic rhythms, while the instrumental “Firewall” hits a little harder, almost like EBM but for the majestic, upbeat strings. With only three songs, this EP is less a meal than an appetizer. It’s promising stuff, though, ethereal but club-friendly, like Delerium without so much of the world music influence, and this teaser hints at real club potential.
