C/A/T's incredibly prolific Ben Arp, unwilling or perhaps unable to stem the flow of EPs and remix singles between his full-length albums, shows up with another surprise selection of alternate tracks a few months ahead of the forthcoming Transcend album. Like his previous EP, this six-track disc sees Arp embracing a broader sense of humor than his earlier albums. A new version of "Smashed," which originally appeared on a compilation from Alfa Matrix, starts things off with samples from everything from Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas to "Family Guy," all devoted to drunkenness, while a new mix of "Enhancer" features more juvenile but undeniably comedic references to breast implants. There are also a couple of guest remixes, with Caustic's "Triple D" version of "Enhancer" giving the track a bit more of a hard techno feel, while Terrorfakt's mix of "Enemy Within" is a predictable but solid mid-tempo power noise club smasher, as is Arp's own "One Step Over" mix of "A Line In The Sand." "[We Make] Music To Piss You Off," built around a sample of Eazy-E from an interview with N.W.A., takes things back to funny again, while two unlisted bonus tracks offer more club-oriented noise beats. This isn't as essential as some of the longer C/A/T offerings, but it's a fun taste of where Arp's head is these days as fans wait for the new album to show up in December.
