Some Things Are Beyond Therapy is the first full-length album from the industrial band, Ludovico Technique. And if I were a mean-spirited critic I would make some coarse joke about how some albums are beyond saving. But I'm not. I'll will freely admit that it was hard for me to enjoy this album, but I dislike being the kind of reviewer who rips someone's hard work to shreds and laughs about it. Ludovico Technique has an audience that will absolutely love this CD, however that audience is not me.

Some Things Are Beyond Therapy is full of hoarse shrieking vocals, harsh beats, and ferocious synths that fuse together to create this electronic maelstrom of unfocused anger, AKA Terror EBM. However in comparison to some other Terror EBM bands of note (Suicide Commando, Psyclon Nine, Hocico) Ludovico Technique is lacking a specific sound that I can cement down as their own. I hear elements of all of the previously mentioned projects but nothing in particular that would make me single out this band if I heard them during a live DJ set or on some random internet radio station. The band does deviate away from the "Thump Thump Thump Shriek" formula that makes up most of the album. Songs like "Wired for Destruction", "Potential" and "Memory" have a twisted industrial rock vibe to them, that is eerily reminiscent of Aesthetic Perfection. "Shutting Down" sounds like it is pulling from the slower paced stuff that Ohgr is known for. Even though there is variety here, there is still no defining aspect to the album that hooks me.

For a debut album, this isn't bad. If you like Terror EBM and a bit of that twisted industrial dance sound that Aesthetic Perfection has, then this is a good album for you. For DJs, the fact that it sounds so similar to other artists means you can put into your sets without scattering the dancefloor like gazelle on the Serengeti. My fervent hope is that with their next album or EP, Ludovico Technique finds their own voice that will distinguish them from the rest of the Terror EBM groups.
