I received an E.P. in the mail recently like I always do and I was introduced to a Seattle based industrial rock artist Vertical Section.  I didn’t know much about Vertical Section but now I can’t get enough. The new E.P. is called “Death Throes” and has seven tracks.   After just one listen to this E.P., I was hooked and it has been at least 3 weeks where I haven’t stopped listening to this CD at least once or twice a day. Just maybe when I thought industrial music was dying, Vertical Section gave me hope.  Vertical Section made me have that feeling I had when I first heard industrial music.  When I listened to the E.P. it had similarities to Nine Inch Nails, Stabbing Westward and Gravity Kills type of sound, but of course creating their own unique sound.  I was like, finally some industrial music with catchy hooks and melodies.  Do I dare mention that some of the hooks reminded me of a more poppy industrial feel with dark layers?  Some of my favorite tracks on the E.P. were “Death Throes”, “Skeptic”  “Breeder” and “A Warning”.  “Skeptic” has a great infectious feel with crunchy guitars that kick in during the chorus and continues throughout. It was so nice to hear a great mix of guitars, real guitars! The programming is really smooth and added nice dark layers.  “Breeder” was another track that I enjoyed and reminded me of more of the 90’s Nine Inch Nails we knew and loved. Again, an awesome mix of electronics and guitars and this was a little was more up tempo, perfect for the dance floor!  The last track on the E.P. “Death Throes” was my personal favorite. I really liked the darker feel to the track.  The programming that was underneath the drumming and guitars had this haunting feel that seeps through the entire song.  Just that alone, made me love this song more and more. Also, the vocals are great throughout the E.P. I really liked how they done.  Joel Day was clear and had great melody and emotion to make you believe that he was saying.  This is just an awesome E.P. and has left me wanting more from Vertical Section, seven tracks was not enough, but if the E.P is any indication of what is next, it is looking bright.  If you like industrial dance, then this is it. Joel Day, you have something good here.  The new CD comes out on January, 25th, 2011. Vertical Section is definitely worth checking out.
