The new single from Android Lust, “Dragonfly” previews the band’s forthcoming album and throws in some alternate mixes and an exclusive track. The title track is more melodic than much of Android Lust’s previous work, and gives band founder Shikhee more of an opportunity to sing rather than growl. There’s still noise, of course, but this time around it’s guitar feedback that sounds almost playful in comparison to the grating industrial onslaught of such earlier tracks as “Kingdom Of One.” The “Low” mix by longtime collaborator Christopher Jon (of I, Parasite) is at once more intimate and more rock-oriented, with the vocals brought up front and backed by additional guitar chords, while “Hole Solution” is more of a dance track, with Shikhee’s vocals layered over a pulsing drum machine. “Mother” is exclusive to this single, and should be a special treat to Shikhee’s devoted fans; it’s more moody than pounding, with dark synthesized textures and vocals delivered in a whisper that seems on the edge of suddenly becoming a shout. There’s definitely enough to keep fans happy until the next Android Lust full-length comes out next year, and if this teaser is any indication, the new album should be an even bigger head-turner than 2003’s The Dividing.
