The new project of former Deep Eynde guitarist Daniel Deleon, Rezurex is in many ways a typical horror punk band, incorporating Misfits-flavored punk rock with B-movie monster themes. "Every Day Is Halloween" (not to be confused with the similarly-titled Ministry track) and "Prisoner Of Love," for example, are catchy and campy, but little else. The psychobilly songs are a little more noteworthy. "Suicide" throws some slide guitars in with the speedy punk power chords, "Don't Mess With Me" is appealingly gruff and gravelly, and "Devil Woman From Outer Space," perhaps this album's most memorable song, goes all out with country rock and comes off sounding like Buddy Holly by way of Ed Wood. "Kill" is another interesting selection, with a hint of Stooges-era garage rock, while surf and Latin guitar work on "Dia De Los Muertos" and "Nueva Vida" gives the album a distinctive southern California vibe. This debut is hardly groundbreaking, but Deleon and company are very good at what they do, and fans of psychobilly, horror punk, and the more raucous side of death rock ought to enjoy this one a great deal.
