The Barbarellatones "Invasion of the Surf Zombies"

The Barbarellatones are a band that exist firmly
within what must be the campiest (and horniest) region
of the Twillight Zone. Their psychobilly sound is a
monster mash of lazy swampy back-beats, spaced-out
keys, surf guitars ala The Ventures on LSD, and the
androgenously weird crooning of vocalist and band
leader, Robbie Quine.

The band mine their subject matter from standard Plan
Nine from Outer Space B-movie fair, generally spun
with a sexual, surf-bum, comedic twist. Zombies and
vampires on surfboards, brain eating mutants from the
creature feature, undead drag queens, tube-driven
robots and hybrid nyphomaniacs are all standard fair
for the Barbarellatones.

While Robbie's lyrics are dirty and (white) trashy,
they also smack of innocence when compared to some of
the hardcore lyrics that break the top forty and rule
the underground today. Don't get me wrong, Quinne's
mouth would make Paris Hilton blush, but there is a
certain playfulness here that I find charming.

Some stand-out tracks for you Ipod junkies are "Sex
Android," "I Had Sex With A Chud," "Zombie Drag
Queen," "Tranni Troglodyte," "White Surf Trash," and
"When Marionettes Kill."

Fans of The Cramps, The Misfits, and 45 Grave should
defintely check out "Invasion of the Surf Zombies."
