Orne's The Conjuration by the Fire is a special case. Originally released in 2006, then catapulted to the status of cult classic, it is now available on LP.

Even though The Conjuration by the Fire was released on vinyl as well in 2006, it was of rather poor quality because it was pressed directly from the CD master. Therefore, Svart Records have reissued this little gem in an attempt to try and fix the situation and bring beauty to the lovers of vinyl. The album is now cut on three LP sides to give it more dynamics, and side D contains the original three track demo of Orne. The LP set comes packaged in a copper foil stamped heavy gatefold jacket and is limited to 300 copies on black and 200 on transparent green wax.

In short, yes – you should know Orne. Composed of seasoned musicians, and headed by guitar and mellotron player and songwriter Kimi Kärki (also known from Reverend Bizarre, Lord Vicar, and E-Musikgruppe Lux Ohr), Orne bring us a catchy type of post-rock that is melancholic at the same time as positive.

By adding saxes and flutes to their music, Orne brings a sixties-vibe to their sound. Even though Orne do not classify as one of the many retro-rock bands of the moment, their sound at times borrows from the rich history of rock music.

While being modern, like post-rock, The Conjuration by the Fire sounds at the same time very much like spacy acid rock. Bring in some elements from progressive rock, gothic rock and stoner rock, and you get an idea of the interesting soundscape Orne creates.

Overall The Conjuration by the Fire by Orne is a timeless album that you can listen to a countless number of times and still discover new layers in this music. Highly recommended.
