The complete anthology of Death Trip, a Finnish punk band from the late 80s and early 90s, spans only 33 minutes, and is now released as Pain is Pain – the Complete Death Trip 1988-1994. The recording dates from 1988.

So why should we bother about an obscure punk band that recorded only half an hour's worth of music? Death Trip is as uncompromising as it is hypnotic - an intense concentration of distorted guitars in the spirit of The Stooges, The Birthday Party and Spacemen 3. Branded one of the most frightening bands in Finland through the infernal screaming of Läjä Äijälä, Death Trip is known to have been an influence on the Finnish underground, being one of the factors that contributed to the formation Circle, for example.

Pain is Pain contains 8 tracks, the band's three 7" singles (originally released on the legendary Finnish indie label Bad Vugum) as well as rare demo recordings. The basis of the music of this Finnish punk legend is the combination of screechy vocals with music that on one hand is traditional punk rock and on the other hand already hints to the grunge from the 90s. Other influences into the music of Death Trip come from the glam scene and here and there some old school doom (think Black Sabbath).

Each track on Pain is Pain is a cluster of raw energy, as we also find in Primordial. Each track is a raised fist, a shot of adrenaline or a kick in the ass – whichever gives you the biggest boost.

“We're Gonna Die Tonight” is more of a standard punk track in the vein of The Clash, with a hint of hard rock influence and a bit of country in the mix. “Chainsaw goddess” is the embodiment of epic rage, and is one of the most energetic, pumping, sludgy, crunchy punk tracks ever.

The fourth track “Deep Red” is a slower track that throbs like old school doom metal with screamed vocals that sound almost like black metal screams. The 6^th track, “Something” has a very dark and menacing, yet still grooving vibe to it, and makes for another exceptionally good track on Pain is Pain.
