Arising from Hull’s deepest depths, comes one of the cities most promising metal acts, already known amongst many metal fans, Sworn Amongst release their latest album with subtle flavourings of menace, power and more importantly passion.

‘Severance’ released 15/2/10 is another opus from the Hull thrashers, kicking off with the album title as its first song, it is clearly imminent that Slayer has a rival, not as grandeur in discography terms… yet, but with the Metalcore approach subtly hidden amongst the sonata of guitars and drums, Sworn Amongst have yet to prove thrash metal is dead.

‘Denounced’ fires off with 3 second outbursts of double bass drumming, whilst Liam’s almost-guttural vocals spread the word of Sworn Amongst in some rather cleverly worded lyrics, a coded message. Shifting melodies and compositions are found within this album, though the vocals are the same, which comes to as a disappointment, although not being a thrash metal fan, I may be doubted wrong.

As far as the music is concerned, the shifting patterns keep the listener on their toes, or should I say keep their head moshing in all directions.

This album is recommended for any thrash metal fan and is an essential for any Slayer fan.
